Case Study: Drivy Brand Illustration

Drivy is Europe's biggest car sharing startup. They help connect people with on demand, privately owned cars for rent. The team at Drivy approached me to help them define an illustration style for their growing brand. I've outlined the process below.

Step One: Sketches

Step One: Sketches

We began with a lot of exploration. After initial moodboards and conversations I dove into exploring a range of styles in a couple of scenarios. I wanted to provide a wide range of options, each giving a different mood and level of playfulness.

Step Two: Digital Character Exploration

Step Two: Digital Character Exploration

After looking over sketches we selected two approaches that felt like good fits for the Drivy brand. I explored several versions of characters in each style and presented the batch.

Step Three: Refine Set and Add Friends

Step Three: Refine Set and Add Friends

To feel solid about the choice made I added some friends for our main character to interact with. Knowing that the app would call for both zoomed sections of characters as well as full body scenarios it was also important to display how these characters scaled.

Step Four: Testing Screens

We made some decisions on a character and car style then moved forward with testing some in-app background styles.

Step Five: Build Some Assets

Because of a dream client and well-defined process we created a really fun, modern and relevant style to adhere to the Drivy brand.
